Punished for Progress

Punished for Progress

Ironically, ASD students may get punished for making progress by getting cut off from valuable therapies, since many public school districts cite that progress to justify a major reduction in service hours. This defies any common sense when the child is far from losing his diagnosis.  Would it be ethical to withdraw cancer therapy from a child as soon as that therapy has shown evidence of effectiveness?  Of course not.  Instead, preliminary success with a therapy is cause to consider whether prolonged or additional therapy of that kind would lead to continued improvement or recovery. This is another example of how ASD children are often treated unethically.
