Accommodations
Accommodations for ASD students
A Montessori educational model can accommodate diverse ability levels – from gifted children to those with learning or physical disabilities – since the children follow their unique learning paths and are not expected to adhere to a standardized curriculum and schedule. Please refer to the following link for a detailed overview of the benefits of the Montessori education for children with autism.
Nevertheless, additional accommodations and supports may be necessary for children with disabilities depending on the child’s level of functioning. In this section I am suggesting various accommodations in the areas of the school admission process, personnel, classroom environment and materials, and sensory. These recommendations are based on my personal experience in this area, and target mainly younger students with ASD (ages 3-9).
